Great hopes Ore entertained in Wellington aquatic circles for the tiuebess of the local oarsman, Hearn, in Sydney. Some £250 has been raised, or rather, guaranteed for the expenses of his trip, and although the m at sanguine of his admirers hardly dream of his defeating Beach or Hanlan, they feel sure he will be able to hold his own with the smaller fry and bring back one or two of the minor trophies. He is to go over this week, should no notice of the postponement of the races be received in the meantime, and as he will be the sole representative of the colony at the gredt aijuatio festival, his progress ‘‘ on the other side will ba watched with tome interest.

SThe deaths at Launceston from small-pox have been added to by another one, and it is feared more may follow. The English cricketers have beaten the South Australian team by 70 runs.
