The akin of the cat fish is now tanned into leather in Germany. The new leather in tough, supple, and of good appearance. It is made into purses and shoe-laces. Tanned salmon skins are used as ropes by the women of Castrie’s Bay. The fourth finger of the left hand has from the earliest date been used as the wedding ring finger. The ancient belief was that a nerve in this finger went directly to the heart. The modern belief is that the nerve leads directly to the pocket-book, and, strange to say, after the ring is bought the modern terminus of that nerve is often lighter than the ancient one could ever have been. A mass meeting of Socialists was held in New York on Sth August, at which the speakers vigorously denounced the conduct of the United Labor Party in declining to admit Socialists to their organization. Mr Henry eGeorge s name was hissed. Trickett offers to give up business for three months to train for a malch with Hanlan if the people of Rockhampton will subscribe the stakes. This will be done.
