“Puff” on Vogel.

The following are some of Puff’s comments before the elects m;— talking about tyranny, V jol made a very lame defence of the refusal to run extra trains on polling day ! Vogel's a humbug! He deliberately burked the real question ! He said it was unlawful for the Government to run '‘special" trains for particular, candidates ! Of course that is not lawful, but that is not what was asked ! What is it then ? What is asked is that the Government will run an extra train each way for the accommodation of the general public who wish to take part in the elections, without reference to any particular candidate! Ah, he never said a word about that!

Not he! All he wanted was to diddle the meeting, and set up a bogus excuse for a scandalous piece of political dodgery ! What a rotten speech he made altogether ! Flat as ditchwater! Full of the most awful whoppers very badly told ! He says the Government are “nearly certain ” of a majority on Monday ! Poor devil! He looked as if he thought so, didn’t he ! Over the left! I never saw a man so thoroughly stumped in my life 1 He'd got “ dead beat ” written right across his face ! I was quite sorry for him I Oh, bang the fellow, that's all nry eye, being, being sorry for him ! He a reduced too many honest families to misery, while he was rolling in vulgar luxurv’ for me to be sorry for him ! £2OO for his drawing-room curtains and other little comforts, while poor coves at thirty bob a week were being sacked, eh ? Yes there’s a good deal in what you say ! It rather bosh snivelling about Vogel! He went into a political struggle voluntarily! Nobody ax’d him, lord knows ! Never was there such a boss tyrant as long as he could run it I Now, when he's busted, he wants to work a lot of sympathy! I don’t see it! He’s had £40,000 and any amount of swagger, and if he’s licked and sarve him right! True for you ! He must go through the mill like anybody else!
