Harbor Board Litigation.
THAT Little BILL; At the Inst meeting of the Board the Sinking Fund Commissioners' account for <£3B, legal expenses incurred tn the late litigation, was reported on by the I’instnce Committee who <Jonai<Ur e ri that the account should be paid find that the Commissionere in future requested to coiisillt the Board. Mr 3tiuderland moved the adoption ot the Committee's report. Major Porter seconded, Mr Matthewson moved As an amend, tnent that the bill be not paid The Commissioners had no right to incur these expenses. In such a case, ;Mf Dickson, himself, and other members had claims against the Board for expenses incurred.. There was no necessity for the expense ; and if the Commissioners choose to take the thing into their oWn hands let them pay for it themselves. Mr McDonald : If we are liable to pay it let’s do so, if not then object to it. I think we might get the advice of the Board's solicitor. An amendment was moved to that effect. Mr Townley believed thU would only be incurring further eiperise; And he wds satisfied that thev would have to pay the bill. Mr Dickson was of the same opin. ion.
The Chairman said it was much to be regretted that the Commissioner's do not see their way to work with the Boitrd And thus sato expenses. (Mr Matthewson: Hear, hear.) He had reldctantly to cottie to the conOltisloii that the Board was liable, and it was better to face the situation and be done with it, and at the same time to try to give effect to the request of the Committee. We should make that a Oonditidii. The recommendation of the Committee was adopted, Messrs McDonald and Matthewson being against it.
