THE IRISH QUESTION,
O’BRIEN SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT. FIGHTING IN CORK COUNTY. tiokooS, September 28. tn the course of the trial of O’Brien, M Harrington, who defended, made a fierce attack upon the actions of the Government, accusing them of suppressing the true account of O'Brien’s, speech. He denounced the way the authorities had gathered their information, and characterised the ofllcia report of O'Brien's speech as a contemptible' malicious fabrication. The Crown Counsel ‘n reply said Mr Harrington’s accusations were utterly false. The bar of magistrates threatened to order the removal of Mr Harrington from the Court if he again advanced such palpable falsehoods for arguinent, Mr Harrington therefore abandoned the case. After going carefully over the evidence it was decided to subject O’Brien to an imprisonment of three months. Pending an appeal he was admitted to bail.
Mr O'Brien succeeded in evading jUe police who were watching him shortly ter hie release, and addressed a proclaimed meeting, He said that critical times were coming for Ireland, and that resistance to the evictions was the plain duty of the Irish people. He denounced what he called Plunkette “ Lust of murder.”
Dr Tanner, M.P., addressed a meeting yesterday at Fermoy, The police interfered, and dispersed the crowd; lu so doing a conflict took place, resulting in fifteen of the crowd being injured.
