The Pea Competition.

That Messrs Graham Pitt and Bennett have been most successful in their “ great pea competition ” is evidenced by the fact that the Committee (Messrs A. Parnell and J. Kirk) found no less than 4,000 to 5,000 answers for them to go through. Ever since the competition was announced there has been considerable interest taken by the public in it. The prizes, amounting as they did to the sum of £lOO, was quite a sufficient inducement for one to try his or her luck. The actual number of peas in the jar was 32,051, and the accuracy of the guesses will be seen from the following list: — Prize. Number. Name.

It will be seen from the above that Messrs Thompson and Stubbs are equal, with 32,050, and have been awarded £42 10s each. Their guess were only one short of the actual number. The other numbers are very close indeed.
