A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT.
TEN PERSONS KILLED AND NUMBERS INJURED. FRIGHTFUL SCENES. London, September 21. Another catastrophe, resulting in the death so far ot ten persons, occurred on the river Thames on the 19 th inst. The Royal Mail steamer Elbe, which has been in the hands Of the ship founders for some weeks past, getting her machinery renovated, was out on A trial trip, when one of the boilers burst, the scalding water and pieces of iron shooting high up in the air, and round about the vessel. Several persons were instantaneously killed and others died a few minutes after from the injuries received, There were several visitors on board who went purposely to see how the new engines worked, but only one was seriously injured; Some of those hurt presented a pitiable sight, and death would have been a great relief to them. It is believed that the explosion was the result of over-pressure being put on. An enquiry has been applied for.
