ONLY A FARTHING DAMAGES. Sydney, September, 21. The well-known humorous writer “ The Vagabond ” (Mr Julian Thomas), who some short time ago issued a writ for libel for alleged personal strictures by the Spectator, a Methodist organ, was on Tuesday awarded a verdict for a farthing damages, no costs being allowed. The case has excited a good deal of interest here, Mr Thomas being a strong opponent of the “ spieling ” element, but otherwise a very poor moralist. It was generally (expected that the plaintiff would have obtained a small amount of damages, with costs.
