The Agents-General have received instructions from their several Governments to conclude the best postal Arrangements possible. MANCHESTER AND THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION. The Manchester Chamber of Commerce Intend tt> discuss the idea of having a Manchester section at the Melbourne Centennial Exhibition, LAND-OWNERS’ COMPANY. The prospectus of th* Land-owners and Land Bond Company of Australia, with a capital of one million pounds, will be issued shortly. Two hundred thousand pounds will be offered to the public. Th* Australian directors are Mr J. M. Highett, the Hon. J. WallaCß, ahd Doctor Moore, THE PACIFIC. In the House of Commons Mr Campbell complained that New Guinea had been basely surrendered to Queensland, a colony which was deeply dyed with slavery. Sir H. Holland stated England had kept New Guinea in her own hands. The grekt cause of trouble in Samoa between the Germans and the English was owing to the non-registration of tend. Mr R. Webster referred to the Missionary grievances in the New Hebrides, Mr L. GOLD. It is reported that large shipments of gold have been made from Australia »o New York direct. MISCELLANEOUS NEWS. London, September 10. The Daily News says it is expected that Australia will remit £2,000,000 worth of gold to America in the Autumn. The Journal des. Debate states that France will not evacuate the New Hebrides until the question of the control of the Suez Canal is settled. In the House of Commons, Captain Colomb M. for Bow, condemned the Government for securing the pre-emption of merchant Cruisers. Mr Arthur E. Forward, M.P. for Ormskirk, and First Secretary for the Admiralty, in reply, admitted that the Admiralty had secured every sixteen-knot British steamer.
The British Trades Congress at Swansea has adopted a poitical programme embrac ing the payment of members, suffrage for all adults, free education, and the expenses of Parliamentary elections to be paid out of rates. The eight hours question was discussed but was adjourned. A Colonial Mercantile Agency Company has been registered with a capital of £50,900. Severe storms in England have seriously damaged the hop crops, and the estimated yield in England and the Continent will be hardly half that of last year,
