The Hall Company.

It is really a great pity that the excellent little Company now in Gisborne should bo so unlucky as to have to contend against the miserable weathei now prevailing, for we feel certain that, if the weather were fine, they would be patronised by crowded audiences. As a low comedian “ Johnny ” Hall is inimitable in his own line, and the bursts of laughter which welcome his appearance as the Count in “ Fun on the Bristol,” and the festive “ Widow Twankey ” prove his popularity with the play going public. Mr Gus Lynch too is an excellent comedian, his eccentric dancing always bringing down the house. Of the two lady members of the Company we have already spoken in favourable terms last week. Both are graceful dancers and possess fresh, well trained voices, We now give the programme of the Company for the week. Last night, owing to the political meeting in McFarlane’s Hall, they were to have played at Ovxnoud, but owing to the terribly inclement weather which was prevailing throughout the day, it was decided to postpone the Ormond performance until to-morrow. We hope the country people will roll up well for they can rely upon two or three hours of genuine fun. It is not very often that such a capital burlesque Company plays at Ormond, so the people should not fail to seize the opportunity. To-night the Company appear at MoFariane’s Hall in the popular burlesque " Aladdin " which was a great success when performed, last week. The burlesque will be preceded by a musical comedy, and an olio of songs, dances, etc., by ths Ferman Family and the Australian Yokes. On Thursday night a graud complimentary benefit will be accorded to the two ladies of the troupe, Mies Laura Roberts and Miss Bella x'erman, During the stay of the Company these two young ladies have established themselves firmly in the favour of the Gisborne public as artistes of a very high ability, ami their benefit will, we trust, be a substantial one. Besides new songs and dances by these young ladies, the full company will appear in the musical comedy of “ The Debutante," wriiten specially John L. Hail, and performed by him in India, Ameiica, and Australia with great, success. Besides these features, a special attractiou wi4 be the appearance of three accomplished musicians. Mr Herman, a violinist of far more than average ability, and at present a visitor to Gisoorue, has kindly couseuied to assist aud as we have bad the pleasure of hearing ilus gentleman on two or three occasions, we can safely promise him an enthusiastic reuepuun. We wian he were permanently located in Gisoorue, for his musical laleuis would prove of great service to the Choral Society's orchestra. Professor Harvy will alsu play and sing and Mr C. Waud, the pianist of me Company, will give us a taste of his quality on the violoncello, of which instrument he is a master. A special feature of the musical part of me programme will be a trio by Messrs Hermau, Wauo, and Harvy, and we can promise a genuine treat to lovers of music who may attend. Comic and other songs by local amateurs will be also given and the public can rely upon a most enjoyable evening’s entertainment. We hope there will be a bumper bouse for the occasion for the dramatic and musical fare provided will be of the best.
