A HALF-CASTE CANDIDATE. Auckland, last night. Wahanui having definitely decided to contest the Western Maori District, Mr John Ormsby, Chairman of the Native Committee, a most intelligent and respected half-caste, residing at Otorohanga, has now, with Wahanui’a consent, entered for the contest, He has stepped outside the usual routine of Maoti electrons fay visiting the different centres of population, addressing the natives and expounding his views on different subjects. He left on Wednesday morning for Waikato. This district is likely to bring out a number of candidates, as there are over twenty thousand electors, extending as it does from Auckland to Wellington.
