OUR LETTER BOX.

THE HERALD AND Mb McDONALD. ... ’To tn Enttoß.' Shi,—How much has Sammy Locke paid " Dick Dead Eye " to appearon the scene and write scurrilous articles in the Herald 7 On whatever occasion he has figured as holding the reins in connection with the Poverty Bay Herald bis falseness and mis-representation of the tnen of our flourishing district has led to an ample and grovelling apology on his part, Wno is he, or what stake has he ip this district, that the settlers will put up with the Hurs and affronts he puis upon them, ever to read or advertise in a paper publishing such sentiments? Dead Eye is credited with brains ; yes he has, if the Poverty Bay public appreciates gross cases of libellous matter inserted in a newspaper. That is the extent of iia brain power,. I can now call to mind DMI Eye meeting Mr Allan McDonald on his return from England a few paces from the Gisborne wharf—he proffered to shake hands. I applaud the manly spirit of the man whom he nad maligned and libelled in his absence. Be waited long enough for his detractor to withdraw hie hand, and not wishing to make a scene on his return to his adopted country, Shook hands with bis libeller. After accepting his grovelling apology, Mr McDonald freely forgave his abject opponent. He now hppeafs as poking fun at Scotch expressions ud iz’loiria, a tactic phrstied unsuccessfully on a former election by Mr Locke. . I trust all lovers of real grit will treat ths letter published last night in the Herald with the contempt it and its writer deserve.—l am, <tc. Faib Purr. Gisborne, July 29,1887.
