Rough on Mr Hobbs
Mb Ballanoe'i friend John Landon must be • polite end amicable gentleman. At hie recent meeting in Auck’end he delivered himtell of the following sentiments Mr Hobbs had drawn attention to an item of 8s 6d for liquor supplied at HoHanga, and he (Mr London' was not ashamed to let everybody know what he rd. He did not go about like some people with a blue ribbon in his button holo, and at the same time drink with friends in back parlours. He had no respect tor shams. If tM (Mr London) put any man up 11 down below " who was not a soman Catho' che would poll three votes to Hobbs' one. But he could not do it because the Protestant missionanes held the district for so many years. The missionaries did not love him, nor pray for him, and he (the speaker) did not pray tor Hobbs. (Laughter). Another thing, and he was done. There was a saddle tor a chief’s wife which he had signed for amongst other goods obtained from Mr Nathan. This sadd'e was one which he sent to the woman at her own request, and stopped the valuejof it from the rent of a house obtained for the accommodation of women and children.
