Hong Kong Traders Want Britain to Stop China Blockade

(Rec. 9.15) HONG KONG, Nov. 13 British commercial interests in Hong Kong are becoming irritable at what they describe as a “farce at the mouth of the Yangtse.” They say they . believe that the British Government should take more positive action there, though without causing any unduly serious repercussions. One •'British merchant said that there now probably must be five or six merchantmen, mostly British there, owing to the effectiveness of the Chinese Nationalist blockade of the Communist ports of China, were now waiting outside the Yangtse River for an end oA the deadlock and for an opportunity to enter Shanghai. He said, that many other ships were also waiting at Hong Kong, and elsewhere, to resume trade with China. Nationalist Planes And Warships Are Barred From Hong Kong (REUTER—N.Z.P. A.) (Rec. 10.40) LONDON’, Nov. 13 A spokesman of the British Foreign Office said that Britain had informed the Chinese Nationalist Government, in a Note delivered on November 4, that the warships and •the aircraft of Nationalist China no longer might refuel at Hong Kong. The Note said that, in view of the military situation in South China, Britain had decided to refuse Nationalist China this refuelling right. The Note also said that, in future, no Chinese Nationalist aircraft might fly over the British colony. Nationalist Bombers Very Active HONG KONG, Nov 13. Airfields ships and trains at Shanghai. Nanking, and Hangchow were bombed by Nationalist planes today, acco v ding to Nationalist air headquarters in Taiwan. Communist artillery positions near Amoy and military installations on Chusan islands of Chekiang wore also bombed.
