Mr Attlee May Stand Down After General Election
LONDON, November 6
Mr. C. R. Attlee will again be Britain’s Prime Minister if Labour wins the general election next spring, but some political quarters believe he might stand down six months after his party’s return, says Reuter's political correspondent. After more than four years as Prime Minister, Mr. Atlee, surrounded by Cabinet personalities stronger than himself, still has more general party acceptability than any of his colleagues. His most probable successor would be either the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Herbert Morrison, the Labour Party’s chief tactician, or the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Ernest Bevin.
