“Write Happy Music.” Says Sir T. Beecham
MANCHESTER Sir Thomas Beecham, 70-year-old conductor noted for his vitriolic tonaue as well as his skill, told students at the Royal College of Music here “nobody outside this country likes British music. Nobody listens to it. It is too dull and depressing. “I have been' going about over 40 years propagating the stuff but I can’t make it go down.” Sir Thomas then, asked the students to write happy music. “That is tne fault with music in this country. /Everyone takes it far too seriously. It is so serious and. profound that no one else understands it. “Cheer up a bit, look cn the bright side.” he advised.
