European Assembly Controversy

(Rec. 8.10) LONDON, Nov. 9 The Standing Committee of the European Assembly is to-day sending a vigorous protest to the Committee of Ministers against what it regards as an attempt to curtail the Assembly's power, says the “Daily Telegraph’s" , correspondent at Paris. The Standing Committee resents especially the view held by the Committee of Ministers that the assembly did not require permanent specialised committees. The former French Prime Minister, Mr Paul Reynaud, who is chairman of the Economic Committee, said he would resign if the Assembly were to be prevented from dealing with the same questions as those now in the hands of the organisation for European Economic Co-operation.
