AN EXPLANATION OF SOVIET’S ATOMIC EXPLOSIONS

Said to be Reversing River Courses ! (Rec. 10.5) BERLIN, Nov. 6 The Soviet Union is using atomic energy to blast a channel between two mountain ranges so as to change the direction of two Siberian rivers. A Soviet-licensed newspaper, “Nacht Express” said this to-day. It added: “The world now has an explanation for the Soviet declaration on September 25 about the atom explosion.” The paper, however, gave no source for its report, but hitherto no Sovietlicensed newspaper in Germany has carried a story from the Soviet Union that has not been from official Russians sources. » The newspaper added; A great plan, which proposes to reverse the flow of the Ob and Yenesei Rivers, foresees the blasting of a path through the Ural and Kazak Mountains by means of atomic energy. The purpose of the plan is to water a dry area between the Aral Sea and the Caspian Sea, by which means thirty million hectares of extra land could be cultivated, and eighty-two thosuand million kilowatt hours of electricity be produced.
