First Guided Missiles Fired in Australia

ADELAIDE, November 4. Test rockets have been fired on the range at Woomera, where the British Commonwealth proving ground for guided missiles has been established. The Minister of the Army, Mr Chambers, saw more fired to-.day, on an interim range, including small wartime weapons employed to test the instruments used in tracking the larger missiles. The range is . 250 miles north-west of Adelaide. Already nearly 3000 people are living in the area. Work is proceeding on the main range, which will give a 1200mile corridor running north-west Lo the Australian coast between Broome and Port Hedland, and extending 1500 miles further to Christmas Island. Three other ranges are in the course of preparation.
