Reward Out For Information About Missing Admiral
P.A. AUCKLAND, Nov. 5 A reward of £lOO is being oflfcred, through a firm of city solicitors, for information leading to the identification or the recovery of the body of Rear-Admiral (E) Harry Smalley Briggs 0.8. E., R.N. (retired). He disappeared two months ago, after leaving his home at Takapuna, and a long police search has failed to reveal any trace of him. Aged 72, Rear-Admiral Briggs came to New Zealand from England about two years ago. On the morning of September 5, he set out in his car for a farm at Glenfield to obtain eggs. His car, with the ignition key missing, and the doors locked, was found at the side of the road. He was seen to leave the car and to lock the doors, and it is assumed that he set out for a walk, which was often his custom. A search was begun the following morning by police and a naval party. The police search continued for several days over a wide area of the countryside but no trace of the missing man was found.
