The Winton meeting has on more than one occasion thrown light on the prospects of those from the south which claim an engagement in the New Zealand Cup, and this year may be no exception. Possibly the greatest interest in the Soldier’s Memorial will be the performance of Excellency The daughter of Salmagundi is bred to stay, and if racing makes the desired improvement in her, she is sure to have a big following in her more important engagements ahead. Her task tomorrow, with 9.13 in the saddle will be a severe one, but she has previously proved up to weight and may prove capable of conceding poundage and beating those opposed to.her.
