Omoto Racecourse Inspected By Course Committee
The course committee of the Greymouth Jockey Club visited Omoto over the weekend prior to arrangements being finalised in the proposal to increase the course proper to seven furlongs. It was decided to get an esimate of the cost and to have the course surveyed.
When the track is lengthened straight will be two furlongs which will bring the course up to Metropolitan standard. There are few racecourses in the dominion that have a straight of two furlongs or longer. It is hoped io have further details on hand for the next meting of the club. Members of the club and local sportsmen alike have been favourably impressed by this move which all maintain is one in the right directi,on. It is also the intention of the club to make further minor alterations and will rank among the best of the provincial courses in New Zealand., Numerous visitors to the town none the less being members of the much travelled Rugby League team, were favourably impress- 1 the ideal setting and surroundings of the course ■which they said had a bright outlook.
