Scouts’ and Girl Guides’ Day Planned At Greymouth Next Month
A grand parade and athletic events are planned for Saturday, October 17. by scouting representatives from all over the West Coast, to try and arouse enthusiasm among the public for the work being done by Boy Scouts and Girl Guides on the West Coast. At a meeting of Scout Club delegates from Cobden, Greymouth, and the Railways, this week, tentative arrangements were discussed. The day’s programme would begin with a grand parade of Scouts and Girl Guides, starting from the Grey Main School, and arriving at Victoria Park at 1.30 p.m. The march is expected to assist in attracting recruits to the Boy Scout and Girl Guide movements. The parade would be attended by a girls’ marching team, and be headed by the Greymouth Municipal Band, conducted by Mr L. Hall. At Victoria Park, the sports and demonstration programme would start after the arrival of the procession, and continue until 5 p.m. Athletic events and cycling races would also b e held.
