SOCIALISM IS ISSUE IN NORWAY’S ELECTIONS
OSLO, Oct. 9
The general elections in Norway take place to-morrow. There are three camps in the elections: — 1. Labour (Social Democrat) holding 76 of Parliament’s 150 seats. 2. The Liberals with 20, the Agrarians with 10, and the Christian People’s Party with eight, together almost forming a bloc in the common front against Labour. 3. The Communists, with 11 seats. On all matters, except finance the five non-Communist parties are in broad agreement. Finance is likely to decide th e elections. Four parties in an anti-Labour bloc have opposed Labour attempts to push through legislation for increased socialisation and are urging more free enterprise. The principal target of the Communists has been the Atlantic Pact, which the Communists press says is more dangerous to Norway than ever, now that Russia has the atomic bomb.
