ANGLICAN CONGRESS FOR CANTERBURY CENTENNIAL YEAR
F.A CHRISTCHURCH, Oct 5. The first contribution cf the Church of England to Canterburys Centennial celebrations next, year will be a nation-wide Church congress, whirl will be held in Christ.-church in May. Prominent church leaders who will deliver main addresses are r-xpectcd to include Most Rev H. W. K. Mowll, archbishop of Sydney, and Primate of Australia and Tasmania Most Rov R. C. Haise, archbishop of T'risbane. Rt. Rev E. H. Burgmann, Bishop of Goulburn, and from the Enis< opal Church in America, Rt. Rev S. F. r ’nvne, Bishop of Olympia (Seattle;. Churches of the Eastern Pacitic will be represented by Rt. Rev Michael Yashiro, presiding Bishop of <he '' 'wch in Japan, and it is hoped that missionary Bishops of Melanesia and Polynesia will be present. The Archdeacon of Manchester (England) h d), Ven A Selwyn Bean, and a-chdeacon C. S. Robertson (chairman of the Australian Board of Missions' have also been invited
The general subject of the congress will h» “Gods word in Gods world” and this subject will be treated from three angles biblical social and missionary. On Ascension Day, May 18. there will be a service in the Cathedral, but. on other evenings it. is proposed to hold public meetings, so that as many as possible may hear the visiting speakers. Meetings for members of the congress will be held on the morning and afternoon of Mayl7, 13, and 19. when it is proposed that each session should be opened by a paper read by one of the visiting speakers.
