Finally Sanctioned By Congress

(Rec. 9.5). WASHINGTON, Sept. 28. The U.S. Congress to-day approved of the 1,314,010,000 dollars foreign arms aid bill. The Senate approval, given by a vote on the voices, completed the legislative action, and the measure has been sent to President Truman for signature. Earlier the House of Representatives had approved the Bill by 223 votes to 109 votes. The bill provides the following authorisations: — North Atlantic Pact nations—Five hundred million dollars in cash; ar/’ five hundred million dollars in authority to make contracts. This authority cannot b e exercised until the United States approves of integrated defence recommendations to be drafted under the North Atlantic Treaty. Greece and Turkey—2ll,37o,ooo dollars.

Persia, Korea and the Philippines—--2,7,640,000 dollars. The “general area” of China — Seventy-five, million dollars, to be used at the discretion of th e President, and not to be limited to military expenditures.
