Labour Party Election Committee
The Hon- C. F. Skinner was present at a meeting of the Labour Party Central Committee at the Westport Community Centre. He told the committee that at the conclusion of the session of Parliament he would pay a visit to most of the towns in the Buller district, and would be present in Westport on election night itself. Very satisfactory reports were received from all parts of the electorate. It was decided to obtain badges and these will be sold by Committee members.
With regard to visiting speakers during the election campaign, the secretary organiser, Mrs Irene Ryan, was asked to write to the National Secretary on the matter. After the business had been dealt with an enjoyable social hour was spent, when Mr Skinner and party, members of the committee and L.R.C. executive were the guests of the Westport Women’s branch. Supper was arranged by Mrs S. Collins. Mr C. H. Thomas presided over; the meeting which was held in conjunction with that of the executive of the Buller L.R.C.. Mr Thomas thanked the women’s branch and Mrs R. Hansby (president), suitably replied, stating that the branch would leave no stone unturned to further the interests of the Labour Government and the member for the district.
