The following officers were elected by the N.Z. Boxing Association: President, Mr H. N. Hunt; vice-presi-dents, Messrs W. J. Eaillie and W. McKenna (Timaru); appeal committee, Messrs C. F. Sanders, V. R. Meredith and N. C. McLean; council, Messrs J. R. Simpson, E. A. Blundell, E. G. Magee, K. A. Merle, A. S. Parker, C. R. Reisop and L. A. Tracy. A suggestion from Wairarapa Association that the rules of the Association be amended to allow for the appointment of three judges instead of only two at boxing contests, was adopted. The conference rejected a remit that the appointment of referees and judges at national meetings be left to the local association.

A proposal for the introduction of purse payments on a compulsory percentage basis was rejected by a large majority. Mr W. J. Baillie (Hawke’s Day),

supporting the remit, said it might cure the current ills of New Zealand boxing, in that associations would be able to hold more professional bouts. Opposing the proposal, Mr L. Farrell (Auckland) said the position would arise where a boxer, on seeing a poor house, would accordingly make a poor fight. The rules allowed for percentages to be offered at present. Whether the taking of flashlight photographs interferes with boxer? during contests was debated. Mr C. Mullany (Wellington) said his association, acting on complaints, had decided against it. A deputation was subsequently received from the press, and, before giving an answer, his association desired to know the opinion of the national body. Mr E. A. Blundell (Wellington) said that flashlights, if properly controlled, should cause no undue interference.

Mr W. J. Baillie said that flashlights had an upsettine: influence on boxers.

Mr J. A. Nodwell (secretary) said the question would crop up again at the Empire Games. Powerful overhead lights used for films would nullify th e effects of flashlights. It was agreed to leave the decision with the local associations. Empire Games Team P.A. WELLINGTON Sept. 2 Before a New Zealand boxing land boxing o v cmfwyp shrdlu et team is selected for the Empire Games the chosen few will have been through a thorough system of trials. Beginning in November, the trials will culminate in a final trial at Palmerstan North on December 10. The team is expected to be announced almost immediately after this date. Announcing this at the annual conference of the New Zealand boxing association today, Mr L. A. Tracy said that the selection committee wore watdicing ’•/ i-rent champm’l ships. They wanted it stressed that those boys who failed to win titles at the champion-hips would not necessarily be out of the running for the Empire Games team. They were anxious that all of the prospective i esentaiivos should maintain theii training, despite the fact that they might be beaten in the championships.
