INJURY OF INFANTS BY MOTOR-CARS

P.A. ' CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 26. When South Island Motor Urjon was discussing th e suggestion of the Commissioner of Transport, Mr G. L. Laurenson, that those motorists who are involved in accidents to pre-school children should be deemed guilty of negligence until they proved their innocence, the retiring president, Mr W. R. Carey, said: “I admire an efficient public service, but I firmly believe that it should take direction from the public as a whole. I think the Commissioner forgets himself”. In a Press Association report of the discussion, as published in some newspapers, last Saturday, these remarks were wrongly attributed to Mr W. Brown, president of the North Island Motoi’ Union.
