N.Z. TRANSPORT CO-ORDINATION COUNCIL SET UP

The Members Are Announced P.A. WELLINGTON, August 24. The members of the Transport Coordination Council were announced to-day by the Minister of Transport Hon. F. Hackett. He said that the council would begin its activities in the near future. • The members are.—The Commissioner of Transport (chairman), the general manager of Railways, the secretary to the Marine Department, the Air secretary, the Commissioner of police, the chairman of directors of the National Airways Corporation. Captain S. Holm, of Wellington (on the nomination of the New Zealand Shipowners’ Federation), Mr L. BHutton, of Wellington (representing local authorities and public bodies who are owners of transport), Mr F. G. Tebay of Napier (to represent the private owners of passenger transport services), Mr G. J. Mahon -of Auckland (to represent the private owners of motor goods transport services), Mr J. C. Adams of Wellington (on the nomination of the Federated Farmers), Mr J. A. Barton, of Frankton Junction (to represent railwav worker’s’ organisations), Mr F. P. Walsh, of Wellington <to represent the maritime workers’ organisations). Mr P. A. Hanson, of Wellington (to represent the Tramwavs’ Union), Mr A. C. Melville, of Wellington (to represent the New Zea'and Drivers’ Union), Mr W. W Hynes, of Palmerston North (to represent the persons employed in the air transport industry. Hon. Mr Hacket said that the functionsof the council were to make inquiries into and report on and . to make recommendations concerning such matters as might, from time to time, be referred to it by the Minister, and to institute, of its own motion, inquiries into anv matter affecting public transport of’ any kind, and to make reports and recommendations thereon to the Minister. ‘■The council comprises men ot long experience in all forms of transport and I confidently think they will give valuable servicte to the country,” said the Minister. “One of its first jobs will be to report on the co-ordination and development of the long-distance, road,passenger services in the Dominion.”
