In a match which produced much of the best which the Rugby code has to offer, Wellington drew, nine ail, with the Ranfurley Shield holders, Otago, yesterday. Always interesting, ■and often brilliant, the match kept about twelve thousand spectators in a constant state of expectancy. The Wellington forwards held their own, and the backs functioned more as q. unit than did Otago’s backs. The Otago defence was solid. For Otago in the forwards M. C. Lunn, Hamilton and Hellyer went well and in the backs Woodhouse, Wightman, Bell and Orr. F,or Wellington, Crist played a magnificent game in the forwards, supported by Wills, Leahy, and O'Donnell. In the backs Bevan, Mullin and O’Callaghan were outstanding. Bell kicked two penalties, and Perriam one for Otago, and for Wellington Mullin scored a try, and Phillips and O’Callaghan each kicked a penalty. Otago led by nine to three at half time, after having had the assistance of a strong wind.
