STRAY DOGS IN WESTPORT
Oh where, oh, where has my little dog gone? He has not been home for his tea. I suppose he’s with others in Palmerston Street. I will have to hunt around and see. Oh, there he is in the vegetable shop, Roaming round with the ownership air To cabbages, caulis—ho he makes free: He gallons around most everywhere! And there’s his mate in the butcher’s shop, Sniffing around the meat. There are hundreds of dogs who have no home — They’ve settled in Palmerston Street. You have, to be careful when riding a byke That you don’t run into some wander- • ing tyke! It is time the Council got on the job, And collected every homeless dog! If a dog is worth owning it deserves a good home; If left neglected it naturally will roam. When driving a car one must look left and right To avoid meeting accident or killing some tyke. In the cities no one by a dog is annoyed— If a dog has no home it is sold or destroyed ! —By E. J. Brind.
