New Canal at Suez

THE August 18. A Dutch firm of contractors has obtained a contract to cut a seven miles long by-pass canal to improve the passage of ships through the Suez Canal. The work, which will cost about £2,000,000, is expected to take 15 months. The by-pass canal will run from El Kantara to El Ferdan, and will be about 55 yards wide.
