EX-SERVICEMAN FROM TAIHAPE TO SETTLE IN KOPARA DISTRICT
Only two applications were received from ex-serviepmen by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr H. M. Lawrey. at Hokitika yesterday when four units of farm land in the Kopara district weie offered' for permanent tenure. At the ballot which was held, only one section was offered, the remaining three having been withdrawn. The successful applicant was Mr F. H. Due, of Taihape. Applications for the land do sed on Tuesday and were invited from exservicemen who had been graded A for. mixed farming, sheep and cattle farming on th- West Coast. The land, which is situated at Haupiri, 45 miles east of Greymouth, contains a total of 3,445. acres. It has been sub-divided into four sections, each containing a dwelling, woolsheds and other outhouses. The whole area is estimated to be capable of carrying 1650 ewes. 390 hoggets and 470 run cattle. The land was formerly owned by Mr G. F. Drayton and other settlm-s.
