LONDON, Aug. 1. Britain’s latest hush-hush jet fiuh; er, the Hawker P-1010, fiown by Squadron Leader T. S. Wade won th British aircraft constructors” challenge cup at Birmingham with an average of 510 miles an hour. The Hawker beat two other jets i Vampire flown by Group Cantain John Cunningham, 470 miles an hour and a Do Havilland 108 flown by Squadron Leader John Derry, at 488 miles an hour. The jets raced around Iho _SO-mile course, which was marked with sodum flares. Derry was hoavilv handicapped with his D.H. 108 tailless experimental aircraft, in which he recently burst through the sonic barrier. Wade also received a handicap, but soon overhauled Cunningham.
