Portugals Precaution Against Seditious Organisations
LISBON, June 15
An official decree has been published creating a Public Security Council which will have power to close and occupy places used for subversive activities. The council, headed by the Minister of Home Affairs, Senhor Augusto Cancela Da Abreu, comprises the commanders of the Republican Guard and Security Police, and the Director of the International and State Security police. The work of the council is officially described as being “to make moie efficient measures' to prevent and repress activities contrary to the security of the State.” The council will have power dissolve any gathering in which seditious or offensive demonstrations against the authorities takes place. Founders; or members of- Communist organisations will be liable to internment sentences ranging from one to three years. Similar punishment will apply to membeis of associations whose purpose is crimes against State security, or terrorism.
