REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent)

As a result of increasing interest in the organisation an endeavour is lo oe macle to establish a unit of the Air Training Corps in Reefton. Some twenty boys are offering for enlistment, and further enlistments are to be sought shortly. The following officials were elected at the annual meeting of the Reefton .Drama Club: —President, Mr W. Buckley; vice-president, Mr R. G. Wilson; secretary-treasurer, Mr R, Hope; committee, Miss M. Palmer, Mr F. Boot.

The annual report showed that the second year of the club’s work had been successful. Two entertainments had been staged. Assets of the club were valuect at over £2O. A strong membership had been maintained. Mr A. Bolitho (Christchurch) is relieving Mr J. Ross, as manager of the National Bank at Reefton. The report to be submitted at the annual meeting of the Inangahua Silver Band shows that a successful year has been experienced. Playing membership has improved and some learners enrolled.

A re-organisation of the band had been made in the latter part of the year, and, stated the report, this had resulted in improved practice attendances, and better playing balance. The instruments were now almost all in first-class order. Only a few programmes were played during the year, but it was hoped to improve this in the coming year. The Christmas carol orogrammes brought in excellent oublic response, receipts being the heaviest for many years.

Some members still required uniforms. it was stated, but it was hoped to outfit those in need as soon as oossible. A fair sum is still outstanding for ball rents. Three members were presented with long service medals during the year.
