MILLERTON NOTES

The Millerton Medical Association held its annual meeting on Wednesday evening when Mr u. Orman presided. The balance sheet was received as satisfactory. The lollowing officers and committee for the incoming year were appointed:—President, Mr J. Orman; secretary, Mr C. Orman; treasurer, Mr D. McMillan; trustees, Messrs T. Grace W. Milligan and W. Watson; committee, Messrs F. Riddell, H. Milligan and T. Jackson. General business was discussed and the officials were instructed to take important issues to the Buller Hospital Board. The Millerton bowlers have been making an endeavour to have their club competitions completed and up to the present, two sections have been finalised, the rinks and the pairs. T. Calder (s), G. White, W. Berry and J. Russell, jnr., won the rinks and F. Riddell (s) and P. Taylor the pairs. Messrs. G. Orman and W. Watson, union representatives, attended a meeting in Westport on Thursday of representatives of the Greymouth and Buller District Miners’ Councils. The Thistle Soccer Club . held a bazaar in the picture hall on Friday night to raise funds for this season s competitions. The public response was very good and the club has now a substantial sum to commence with. Mrs Barnhill and child have left for Wellington after spending an extended holiday at Millerton wit.i friends. , Mrs T. Muir was a visitor to Millerton during the week. A meeting of the Millerton Community Centre was held in the Community Hall on Thursday veiling and Mr W. Watson presided. Members of the district committee present were Messrs T. McGhie (chairman), J. Jhomstone (vice-president), A. Prosser (secretary) and J. Evans. Mr 1. Muir district organiser was also present. There was a large attendance of the public. The visitors gave a very interesting address on the work done by the district committee and the local community branches and what their future plans were for fostering the community spirit m the district. After a Ictgthy discussion in which many questions were asked and answered satisfactorily the mooring ended, the visitors being thanked.
