WATAROA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent). Last Saturday’s St. Patrick’s dance at Wataroa was an outstanding success, visitors being present from many parts of South Westland. The hall was tastefully decorated, the music of the best, and the supper provided by the ladies was all that could be desired. Mr J. Nisson was a capable M.C., and Mr J. P. Nolan was doorkeeper. Mr R. Thomson and Mr V. ’Williams left on Monday for Okuru and the Haast by plane to join the Works Department staff in clearing the HaastWanaka road. This road gives readyaccess to Otago. The Westland Count}/ chairman, Mr G. Rowley, is this week visiting Okuru and the Haast. He is accompanied by the county engineer, Mr W. Clark, and Mr James Donovan, of the County Council. They are looking into South Westland’s needs and travelled from Waiho by plane. Now nearing the end of its jojurney the drove of over 600 cattle for this week’s Wataroa sale is reported to be in exceptional condition after a long trip.
