CHILD MIGRANTS FOR BRITAIN

WELLINGTON, March 23. The first party of 20 British children to come to New Zealand under the Government’s child migration scheme will leave by the Rimutaka in April. Announcing this, the Hon. A. McLagan, said there were a number of British children available under the scheme, but certain legal difficulties regarding acceptance of them on a guardianship basis had arisen. These had now been overcome.

Over 300 children had been sufficiently investigated to enable the . selection committee to make the final selection and shipping would be available to bring the children to New Zealand in groups of about 20 to the extent that suitable homes were available. The Child Welfare Department had already recommended over 200 homes.
