Blackberry pickers are believed to have been responsible for starting a fire which destroyed 50 acres of scrub at Glen Eden on Saturday. After fighting the blaze for nine hours, the Glen Eden and Henderson volunteer fire brigade brought it under control and prevented the destruction of a further 200 to 300 acres. NO OPERATION PALMERSTON N„ Feb. 28. A Hastings patient, who swallowed a plastic upper denture and was rushed to the Palmerston North Hospital, was discharged this morning with his problem solved. No operation was necessary. POLIO CASES DUNEDIN. Feb. 28. Two cases of poliomyelitis have been reported in the Otago health district in the past week bringing the total this year to 17. Both the latest cases are girls, one aged 19 from the Owaka district and one aged aged 15 from Green Island. WELLINGTON, Feb. 28. A 24-vear-old Wellington man was reported to-day as a positive case of poliomyelitis. TIMARU, Feb. 28. A positive case of poliomyelitis was admitted to the Timarn Public Hospital late on Friday.- He was a boy aned 10 years, from Winchester. Since February 14 three childres, all under the age of 14. have pe-’o admitted to the Oamaru Public Hospital suffering from the disease. All these cases are in the South Canterbury health d’strict. A bov aged 10 was admitted to the Wellington hospital at the week-end with poliomyelitis.
