BOYS’ UNAUTHORISED CANVASS OF TECHNICAL SCHOOL FUNDS
Some areas of Greymouth have been canvassed during the past few days by some boys for the Greymouth provide prizes for the Greymouth Technical High School swimming sports which are to be held to-day. Whether they had been authorised and by whom was a question raised at last night’s meeting of the Greymouth Technical High School Board of Governors, by Mr J. H. North, asked the Acting Principal, Mr G. M. Mitchell, if he could give any information on the matter.
“Three scallywags canvassed Cowper Street for funds for the school, swimming sports,” said Mr Mitchell.’ He had that day instructed a teacher to ascertain who the boys were but they had not been identified. It had been established that they were not pupils of the school, were not wearing school uniform, and were too young to be at school, but their identity had not been established. He had no knowledge of how much they had raised, and the school had received no money.
“Boys and girls will be boys and girls,” commented Mr F. L. Turley. Mr Mitchell pointed out that at fete time the Technical School puoils sought contributions in the town, but they went in proper uniforms and carried the propdr credentials.) He was glad the information was not correct, said Mr North. Mr Turley pointed out that publication of the facts might put the idea into other boys’ heads. Another member commented that it would be a warning to the public, while a third member suggested that there were many generous people who woulfl vive without, question.
