N.Z. Dairy Factory Workers Secure Wage Rise of 6s 5d a Week
P.A. WELLINGTON, Dec. 16 A complete agreement on terms for a New Zealand Dairy Factories’ Empolyees’ Award was reached in the Conciliation Council to-day. The settlment provides for a flat-rate increase of 6s a week to all of the workers engaged as from August 1 last (or since then), until December 20. From December 20 all of the rates will be increased by a further five pence a week, making a total of 6s 5d a week over the present rates. 1 his will bring the basic rate in the industry up to £6 15s a week. All of the penal and overtime rates will bo based on the new wage scale, thus adding further to the effect of the increase The’ conditions of work will remain but little changed from those ruling under the present awa"d. Im agreement is for an award operating for one year. No. official report oi negotiations was issued at the conclusion of the sitting of the Conciliation Council to-day, but the terms aie to be the subject of an address m union officials to a meeting of dairy workers at Morrinsville to-morrow.
