At Monday’s meeting of the Nelson Education Board the senior inspector for the Nelson Education district, Mr A. Lake gave notice of his intention to retire on superannuation on March 28 of next year.

The Canterbury Education Board has confirmed the following West Coast appointments as from February 1. —Mr A. S, Jones, assistant master, Blackball, and Misses L. R. Henderson, Camerons, and L. M. Cowan, Cobden, assistant mistresses.

The Girl Guides’ Silver Fish has been awarded to the New Zealand Chief Commissioner, Miss H. Ruth Herrick, 0.8. E., of Hastings. This award is an imperial one and the highest for good service to the movement that can be given to a uniformed guide member. Miss Herrick has been active in the guide movement since 1931.

Mr J. A. Fyfe, Clerk of the Court, at Greymouth, will leave on Monday, on transfer to Gisborne. Mr C. L. Cutler, of Greymouth, will be ActingClerk until Mr W. M. Fraser, of Hokitika, takes over at Greymouth, early in the New Year.

, At the conclusion of Mr Justice Fleming’s duties as temporary Judge of the Supreme Court in Christchurch, on Wednesday, a large attendance of barristers, to support tributes paid by Mr L. J. Hensley, President of the Canterbury District Law Society was present.

Rt. Hon. R., Semple was asked if he would be contesting the election next year. The Minister of Works was non-committal in an interview in Auckland. He said that, if it was physically possible, he would like to see the development of schemes which he had outlined for the various districts in full swing before he retired from public life. Mr Semple was born in the year 1873. His birthplace is the town of Safate in New South Wales. Because of his health the Minister was absent from the House of Representative on occasions during the recent session.—Press Assn.
