Soviet Armed Strength Displayed at Moscow on Sunday

MOSCOW, Nov. 7. The Deputy Ministei’ of the Armed Forces (Marshal Semyon Timoshenko) took the salute at a mass parade of the Soviet army, air force and navy in Red Square to-day on the occasion of the thirty-first anniversary of the October Revolution. Marshal Timoshenko, in a speech praising th e achievement of the Soviet Union, said: “Oui- armed forces stand on guard for the peaceful and creative work for the Soviet people. The Soviet army, while successfully solving the tasks confronting it, must continue to be in a state of complete military preparedness.” Marshal Timoshenko added: “True friends and supporters of peace are more and more becoming convinced of the need for an active struggle against warmongers.” M. Stalin’s son, Major General Vassily Stalin, led a fly-past of big fourengined aeroplanes, jet aeroplanes, twin-engined bombers and divebombers. Massed bands played as Government and Communist Party leaders stood at Lenin’s tomb. A Moscow radio commentator said that in the parade were “gigantic guns so enormous that they were brought through the square in sections. The first carriage earned a special foundation, the next carriage carried the body of the gun, the third carried the barrel, which can fir© shells dozens of miles.”
