Flans to erect army huts in the Greymouth Post Office yard for the housing of tools and equipment have been changed. An alternative site has been obtained in Arney Street.

More than 60 cars were needed to tak e ministers and elders of the Presbyterian Church to new housing areas in the Hutt Valley on Saturday morning. The General Assembly, sitting in Wellington, adjourned at 11 a.m. so that the visit could be made and the ministers get a first hand view of the problem confronting the church in providing for people in big housing blocks.

Approval for an £82,000 hydroelectric power scheme fop Taupo was given by ratepayers in a poll held on Saturday. Voting was two to one in favour of the proposal. It is expected this power will be available to Taupo in two or three years.

Mr J. B. Kent, M.P., has advised that the Government has arranged for the ship, Melva, to make a trip to Jackson’s Bay with Chirstmas goods for the settlers. Mr J. F. McDougall (secretary of the South Westland Shipping Company) states that the Melva has a tonnage of 250, and her draught is eleven feet. She would be unable to work the port of Hokitika. The Melva is expected to arrive in Greymouth about tho end of this week.
