Conditions at the Royal- Military College have been radically altered as a result of reorganisation during 1948. In accordance with modern needs the time allotted to ordinaly civil subjects is now sufficient to allow a cadet to complete the equivalent of. two years’ full-time university study. The cadet who is to be commissioned in a technical arm such as Engineers or Signals studies pure and applied mathematics and science subjects. Other officer-cadets study some mathematics and science and ‘ then fit themselves for administrative posts by the study of subjects such as English, economics, economic geography and book-keep-ing. In the past, the cadet’s parents have had to provide pocket-money. To ensure that all cadets, irrespective of the wealth of their parents, are on equal footing, pocket-money and all clothing are now provided by the College, and no cadet is permitled to receive remittances from home. Cadets on leave receive a maintenance allowance, and other allowances have been increased to ensure that the cadets finish their fuor years’ course with from £lOO to £2OO in their bank accounts.
