BRITISH DESTROYER RESCUES 1,200 CHINESE TROOPS

(Rec. 10.0) SINGAPORE, Nov. 1 Twelve hundred Chinese soldiers have been rescued by the British destroyer, Cossack, after their vessel, the Ying Lung, was driven ashore near Keelone in Formasa Island. In very rough seas, the British sailors threw lifelines and rescued the men on the distressed ship without a casualty. They battled against the waves for several hours, with many sailors up to the chin in water. The Ying Lung was in no immediate danger, but salvage work was likely to be a major operation.
