QUEENSLAND DROUGHT KILLING THOUSANDS OF ANIMALS
BRISBANE, Nov. 1 The drought is killing tens of thousands of sheep and cattle in central and north-western Queensland. In the north-west 30,000 square miles of country, which normally carries 50,000 cattle, is practically waterless and cattle are dying in increasing numbers. The Clio station alone has lost 10,000 lambs. Big flocks of sheep on the stock routes leading south are eating the fodder so rapidly that it will soon be impossible to move sheep along the routes.
Over 116,000 gallons of water is being carried thousands of miles daily by train to the drought-stricken areas, and already half a million sheep have been transferred from north-west to south-west Queensland and New South Wales.
