LAUNCH MISSING OUTSIDE WELLINGTON

P.A. WELLINGTON, October 19. A thirty-foot diesel launch, which left Island Bay about 11.30 this morning, to set fishing nets near Karori light, had not reached its destination at a late hour to-night. The only person aboarfi is the owner, Ronald Heal, of Island Bay. Heal’s brother, who notified the police, stated that the missing man was an experienced launchman, and had made the trip several times. A launch was seen from Cape Terawhiti, about 12.30 p.m., and it has not been seen again. It was thought likely that it was Heal’s craft. Though it is possible that the launch encountered heavy winds, and put into Oterongu Bay, north of Terawhiti, for shelter, fears are felt for its safety. It is also possible that Heal experienced engine trouble, and drifted in strong northerly winds. Arrangements are being made for an extensive search to-morrow morning, should no further word be received of the vessel.
